John McNeil Studio is looking for an Interactive Development Intern to join our team in Berkeley, CA. We are a collective of strategists, writers, designers, filmmakers, technologists, and photographers who help companies tell compelling stories and build brands. We love digital but embrace print. We are founded in aesthetics, but also in utility. We make things that make brands grow.

This is a great opportunity for you to work in a high caliber team and learn the craft and skill of being creative and producing content for a variety of audiences. 

We’re looking for a developer intern with a passion for creating programmatic experiences on the web, in apps, and through physical installations. Much of our work is done on the web, where you will develop prototypes, collaborate with designers on UX/UI, write clean and reusable code that can easily be integrated into larger apps or content management systems, and deliver high-quality products on tight timelines. Besides web development, we’d love it if you had familiarity with building apps for mobile or other digital mediums (kiosks, art installations, etc) using tools like Unity, Unreal Engine, Adobe Animate, or TouchDesigner.

Helpful skills:

  • Well-versed in HTML5/CSS3.
  • Experience with modern JS frameworks (React, Vue, etc).
  • Experience developing for WordPress or other open-source CMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap, Foundation, or Bulma.
  • Familiarity with 3D on the web: WebGL, frameworks such as AFrame, ThreeJS, etc.
  • Comfortable with Adobe Creative Cloud apps.
  • Familiarity with Unity, Unreal Engine, Adobe Animate, TouchDesigner, Facebook AR Studio, Snapchat Lens Studio, Framer, etc.
  • Knowledge of one or more 3D applications: Maya, modo, Cinema 4D, etc.
  • A love of good design.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to stay cool under pressure.
